Joshua Peace SeekerJoshuapeaceseeker@gmail.com I was raised in Southern Oregon. I had a great time in the outdoors as a kid spending most of my summers at the lakes or the campgrounds. I always stayed busy building a tree house or riding my bike from one end of town to the other. After high school I knew I needed to find my own path. I never felt very at home in the classroom so I dove right into the business world. I decided to move to Portland Oregon in 1999 and try to fulfill my dreams of success with in the corporate system. I learned quickly that I was not getting what I needed from that reality. I met Yemaya in 2001 right after 9/11. We went out for the first time in March 2002 and I never let her leave after the 2nd day.
Yemaya and I had Kaileah in 2003 just a couple of months after the war in Iraq started. When I looked into Kaileah's eyes I decided that I could no longer pursue my old lines of thinking. It was time for a big transition. My heart will not let me support the United States anymore so I started researching opportunities in other countries. The list was short and Costa Rica stood out as our best option. We traveled there in April 2006 for the first time and got a feel for the different parts of the country. The mountains called to us. Yemaya & I went to Burning Man in August 2006. That pretty much did it for us. My confidence in tribe was solidified. Being a part of Black Rock City for a week was a life altering event. I came back to CR in November with a big group of friends and found the farm. I moved here in January 2007 and have been working with our tribe to prepare the farm for everyone. Yemaya and Kaileah moved here in March 07. We now live near Santiago de Puriscal, a great little town with all of the supplies we need and almost no tourism. I have been working for the last year on a bio diesel project with many in our tribe. In Costa Rica we are working to help farmers get Jatropha planted. Swinging through the trees in the jungle is a million miles from where I was a few years ago. Getting into the streets of Portland and working to stop the wars has been a powerful motivator in my life. My political awakening has been awesome. I came to the desicion that my life is my protest. I work now to help people use their energies towards building the infrastucture our community needs to deal with changing world we live in. Most of all I love to dream and help others to dream BIG! The Asylum Street Spankers are one of my favorite bands! I think the word is addicted. LOL Floater has been a huge part of my adult life. Their music motivated me to search deeper in myself and question those things I assumed about life. I have been to close to a hundred of their shows! It is the thing I miss most about Portland:) Hopefully next year they can come down here to our new studio and rock out! |
