Austin Sullivan

I was born in Austin, Texas, but raised in Venice, CA until the age of 9. At that point I moved to a small town in south-central Texas until I was 18. In my adult life I have lived in Austin, Tx; Hemet, CA; Salem and Portland, OR.

I briefly attend college, but left to go to work. That said, I have never ceased learning about the things that interest me. The areas of study that interest me the most are: american history, biblical history, world history, scientific history, anthropology, current political sciences, bio-chemistry and physics/quantum mechanics.

I have a deep and abiding love of music, restricted to no single genre. I enjoy music where it sounds (to me) like the musicians really "mean it". Miles Davis and Thelonius Monk; Nina Simone and Joni Mitchell; Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley; The Asylum Street Spankers and KRS-One; young Bob Dylan and Tool; these are people who sound to me like they put all they have into each note and phrase. Tom Waits says he tries to inspire his musicians to "play it like your hair's on fire" - that's a good phrase for the musical quality I listen for.

I have two children, one born in 1996, the other in 1999. I love them deeply and spend much of my time with them. I want very much for them to inherit a better world from me that I did from my parents. I know we can improve the relationship between members of our race (the only "race": the human race)and with our home planet as a whole while continually improving everyone's standard of living. I also recognize this will require a major shift in our value-system, and I am working to educate my children appropriately.
