After years of trying to figure out how my tribe would free themselves of the bonds of capitalism I found some amazing answers in simple places. Cooperatives for one. I know many of us believe we can not get truly local with all of our food. But we can. We need not slave away individually […]
We just made our first bamboo flooring pieces. Photos later tonight. We are excited to be able to build with this lovely material.
We had a second meeting today to discuss and plan building biodigestors for most of the homes in Lanas. Sam, Kyle, Maiju, Carlos and Joshua are in Uvita cutting bamboo for construction. WOW!!! 100 foot tall sticks getting stuck and hung up in others is fun. Loads of people all day to get 25 cut down and to length. We have one more morning of cutting and then we load it and get it […]

It is officially rainy season. It has just been Douwe, Maiju and Joshua here for the last weeks. We had a sad event here in Lanas. A young friend was lost to the river. It has brought pain to our paradise. The outpouring of support from the tribe to those here at the farm has […]

Published on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 by The Nation Daylight Robbery, Meet Nighttime Robbery by Naomi Klein I keep hearing comparisons between the London riots and riots in other European cities—window smashing in Athens, or car bonfires in Paris. And there are parallels, to be sure: a spark set by police violence, a generation that […]
Calling All Robin Hoods and Maid Marions: Gather Your Merry Men and Women by John Perkins Like Robin Hood, we live in a time of turmoil. The feudal lords once again are exploiting We the People, and chaos has ensued. It is time for change. There is no other choice. There is no more option […]
The first step towards a brighter future is admitting we have a problem and getting active. We have come up with a list of 15 or so things one can do to start changing the world from wherever one lives.
Short Video showing Joshua and Milan making soap.
The Rocket Stove/Cob Oven is well underway. Here is a short video of the process unfolding.

Let us all expand our activism into our investment lives. If you are putting money away into 401 K or pension funds, you must look into where that money is going. Is it invested in alignment with your values or is it cutting down forests and drilling for oil in the arctic? I urge you […]
We talk a lot, here, at the farm. We talk about revolution, our environment, spiritualism, wars and so much more and how they are all interconnected. This makes describing it all a bit of a complex endeavour, as one thing will be rooted in or related to any number of other things, making it easy […]
We have been processing food, setting up people with cooking stoves, building swales and filtering veggie oil. We made soap and toothpaste this week. We are on the Permaculture path more each day.

Przemek and Joshua are off to the Ark Herb Farm to pick up loads of plants!
My Experience At Verdenergia I felt a calling to Costa Rica years ago. On my vision boards I clearly stated I wanted to be involved in a sustainable project embracing permaculture, organic farming, Flow Arts, Healing Arts, and a community of like minded individuals working together to create Eden on Earth, here-now. All in accordance […]
Cana Agria: This plant is good for Kidney health. One uses the leaves for tea making. Azul de Morta: This plant is good for allergies and also produces a blue dye. One boils the leaves and makes tea.
I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the fact that Verdenergia has had such amazing success BECAUSE of all of the amazing people that have come and volunteered that time and energy to make it all happen! Kudos to all of you…you know who you are! Happy Volunteer Appreciation Day! (It really is […]
How do I describe what Permaculture practices have done for our finca? Is it a shift in the way we garden, what we eat, how we cook or how we build, yes to all of those things, but that does not even begin to describe what has taken place in our lives. Becoming present with […]
Today we had a co-op meeting at both ours and Carlos’ farms. Over thirty people showed up!
We started building a new swale in Riverside field today along an erosion point. Weedwacking away were Carlos and Joshua. Digging and chopping were Matt, Carrie and Shay. The heat was intense directly in the suns rays. We dug until we could not handle it and then we made for the river. It was beautiful […]
11 people left this morning 🙁 Up to 6 more new faces will be here over the next three days. Our flow artists all went to a gathering in Montezuma. Have a great time team!!! The fields are looking amazing. Every morning has been a tackling of projects in the gardens by 5 to 10 […]
We have been planting like crazy for the last few weeks. We planted corn in Calle Uno and Calle Dos today. We mixed in more root veggies, chopped and dug up grass in Coral Abajo. We are already seeing the beans and yucca we planted last week popping up. We also tended to hundreds […]
The embers of revolutions past have been fanned to flames over the last few decades. From the Middle East to the Mid West the masses are asking why things have to be organized the way they are.
We are preparing for 40 new farmers to visit and learn from our farming techniques. We hope to ad dozens more farms to our co-op this planting season. We will be needing support from the North. We need people and money to help lead the Permaculture revolution. Building the infrastructure needed to replace the old […]
We have been preparing a long time for this planting season. Dozens of us working for months to remove grass, brush, build swales, dig drainage ditches, to prune Jatropha, pond digging and so much more. The full moon and the coming of spring was a transition period for VerdEnergia and the crew. We had a […]
Eugene and Anne’s wedding was an amazing event. The magical lights around the studio and pool made it feel like a dream at night. Check out the wedding blog at http://adventurewedding.blogspot.com/
We have gotten a lot done in the last few weeks. The roofing is going up over the new floor space behind the studio. The garage shelving is being built and wood is stacked and beautiful in it’s drying racks. We chopped all of Calle #1 and Calle #2 and we are getting ready to […]

Add that to the incredible volunteers/interns/tribe that we already have than you get an the most amazing crew EVER! I spend most of my time preparing fresh, incredibly […]
Just left the farm and back in San Jose. It is so great to see all the progress going on. The building and the gardens look great. Keep up the good work guys and Io and Mowgli, rock the gardens
We finished wall 1 of 3. Steven sweating mud he is so into it 🙂
Matt, Przemek, Carlos, IO, Casper and Yemaya worked hard today to finish a few more sections of the first wall. More to come Wednesday. Lots of new pictures to follow.
Our gardens have taken a huge leap forward over the last 18 months. Permaculture in action. Each day we construct a little more and get closer to sustainability.
We have been digging swales for quite some time already, mostly in the older fields where the trees are planted in lines. In the amphitheater field the trees were planted on level, following the contour of the mountain, and this was done in last year’s planting season. Now, in the past month and a half […]
It was time for a new, larger batch of cob. We think we found the right proportions for the mixture, now we’re reconsidering the method of mixing it. The clay has a hard time drying what with all the rain, so sifting it becomes hard and time-consuming work. Instead, today we mixed the clay with […]
We are busy, busy, busy getting started on our first cob building right now. We found a large clay deposit on the farm whilst digging a pond. We have been building the test bricks to dial our mix in. Over the last few days we have reconstructed the foundation and roofing of our garage. Now […]
We built a new roof extension off of the studio over a new dining area. I will follow up with pictures as soon as we get our faster connection back. We are getting ready for 30 plus to be able to eat sitting down at tables under cover.
We are building a new bench near the main entrance to the lodge for boot removal. A Thousand pounds of rocks lugged up from the river and a broken planer later we are almost done.
This is a summary of our intentions with the reconstruction of the forest and the creation of the infrastructure needed to support farmers in Puriscal with Jatropha and bio fuels production. The need to reconstruct the jungle in Costa Rica is extreme. Thousands of farms are dissolving into the rivers and oceans. Developing a plan […]
This is the original studio construction photo log. Before the studio got built, this shed was in its place. Needless to say, things have greatly improved since.
When we were looking for a farm this place stood out head and shoulders above the rest. Many people in the tribe wanted quick access to the Costa Rican jungle and this house was a great start. It was about half done when we bought it.
